Your only parking option at Mama’s Fish House Maui is valet parking. Every time I go, the valet is free (just be sure to tip them!). They’re speedy and kind and will direct you where to check in at the restaurant. Plus, you’ll want some time to enjoy the setting before settling in for dinner. The lawn outside the restaurant is beautiful, and there is also some seating near the hostess stand. What’s most surprising about Mama’s Fish House is its location.

We Appreciate Our Local Farmers
Who knew that pickled banana pairs so well with curry? Each dish was flavorful, unique and absolutely delicious. Mama’s Fish House is a gem in the Hawaii dining scene and a must item to include in your itinerary. The sights, the settings, the cuisine, everything here at Mama's is reminiscent of travels throughout Polynesia. Ask your server about the collections around the restaurant and they will tell a story of the past.
Hours
They would gather mangoes and papayas from the trees, watercress from freshwater streams and find the best breadfruit (there are many varieties of breadfruit). After a few weeks a young Marquesan came aboard as crew. For three months they explored the islands of the Marquesas, sometimes sailing to villages that had never been visited by a sailboat. In the more remote villages, they would be met by canoes paddled by kids bearing gifts of fruit and fish.
#2 Dressing Up: What to Wear at Mama’s Fish House Maui
Our deluxe two bedroom beachfront cottage opens directly to the ocean, so you can stroll out to the lawn and enjoy the beach any time of the day. One time, I went at dinnertime and chose two appetizers instead of an entree, just because they both sounded better at the time than the main entree options. On other trips, I’ve gotten different seafood options and they were all fine. Many people begin their Mama’s Fish House experience with a specialty cocktail.
Head to the podium next to the parking area entrance to check in and confirm your reservation. Then walk past the entry arch to the path that takes you to the restaurant. If you’re coming from Kihei or Wailea, leave an hour earlier than your reservation. There’s usually traffic heading north along Piilani Highway, and you’ll hit traffic again on Hana Highway at Paia town. Handicap stalls are available, or you can drop those needing assistance at our service entrance located behind the restaurant.
Why you should visit Mama’s Fish House

While there isn’t a formal dress code, I’d think twice about strolling in while wearing just a bikini or sans shoes. No restaurant parking is allowed in designated Beach stalls.

In the distance, beyond the outer reef, the jagged peaks of Moorea Island rose above the horizon. The family lived in Tahiti and the neighboring islands for over a year. They would sail to the bays and lagoons of Moorea, Raiatea and Bora-bora, but mostly they remained tied to the quay that fronts Papeete. 25 or 30 yachts from all over the world were always tied up beside them and everyone lived on their boats. On dark moonless nights they would catch fresh water prawns using flashlights to illuminate their eyes, spearing them with sharpened nails tied to the end of sticks.

Welcome To the North Shore

Since I’m usually at Mama’s to celebrate a special occasion, I’ll throw on a casual sundress and sandals. During my last visit, I ordered the sesame-rice crusted Hawaiian Kanpachi, which was caught off the coast of Kailua Kona. It arrived with a side of vegetables and Kalua pig fried rice. There’s also usually at least one off-menu special available, so be sure to check with your waiter before making a final decision.
Mama’s Fish House offers an innovative daily menu that changes frequently to take advantage of the freshest ingredients and fish from local waters. Rated as one of the top Maui restaurants for the best food and spectacular views. If you want additional feedback check out the reviews on OpenTable, Facebook, Google, and Tripadvisor below. Whether you have a special occasion like we did on our first visit or just want to enjoy a fabulous meal for a perfect ending to the day, Mama’s Fish House delivers.
But serving sizes are not as large as at many of Maui’s other fine-dining restaurants, and prices at Mama’s are among the highest on Maui. It takes about an hour to drive to Mama’s from the main Maui resort areas of Kaʻanapali and Wailea. While the food (and the accompanying prices) screams upscale, the restaurant itself lends a casual elegance that suits the carefree island life. Lunch is the best time to go to Mama’s Fish House on Maui. The menu is the same price and portion size but during daylight, one can enjoy taking pictures at the beach cove and coconut grove. You can get locally caught fresh fish at lots of other restaurants on the island — and without the premium.
Six months were spent installing a new engine (which had quit for good in the Marquesas) and completely refitting the boat. The refit was harder and took longer than expected and cold winter arrived. It was too late in the season to sail back to Tahiti so they headed north to tropical New Caledonia to wait for spring. There was good French cooking there and good French canned goods (the NZ food and canned goods were barely edible). Vaima served traditional Tahitian dishes and French bistro fare, accompanied by French wine or Papeete’s Hinano beer.
Before we get to our 8 reasons why you should go at lunch, let’s get our bearings on where Mama’s Fish House is located on Maui, Hawaii. With fish entrees ranging from $54 to $78, you may only want to go once. The average cost for one person at Mama’s Fish House is about $75 for an entree. However, prices can vary depending on what you order and the quantity. Additionally, if you plan to take a bottle of wine with your meal, that will be an additional charge. Advanced booking is recommended due to the popularity of Mama’s Fish House and the limited seating capacity.
Dozens of them would clamber aboard and sleep overnight on Marinero’s deck. Mama’s Fish House is located on Maui’s famous north shore. Home to world-class windsurfing, the Road to Hana, sea turtle covered beaches, and the cute surfer town of Paia. We recommend wearing semi-formal attire as it will add to the overall elegance and ambiance of your experience. The staff won’t judge; they’ll just be delighted that you decided to join them for a delicious meal.
Here is our Mama’s Fish House Review on whether it is worth visiting. Servers will explain menu items in simple terms; the decor is pretty old-school; and you’ll see a mix of diners from all kinds of backgrounds. I think it strikes the perfect balance for anyone who wants to enjoy a nice dinner without feeling out of place in a sleek, fancy restaurant.
The biggest, Quinn’s, was filled every night with locals and seaman from the cargo and passenger ships that stopped in Papeete and it stayed well past midnight. “Quinn’s Girls” performed traditional dances on a stage high above the crowd. The lagoon was protected by a reef that surrounded Tahiti like a necklace. Sailing canoes would fly across the blue waters of the lagoon and swimmers dove in the coral reefs for fish. Children swam off the boats or jumped of the quay, chasing fish between the coral heads that rose up from the bottom of the lagoon like big trees.
I’d argue that there’s no better place to splurge on fresh seafood for dinner (or lunch) when you’re on Maui celebrating a special event. It never disappoints and offers special seafood dishes while touting the individual fisherman. I had the Kona Kampachi stuffed with lobster and crab in a macadamia nut crust...Our table shared the venison appetizer which was so buttery soft and tasty.
